Uncle Josh here needing some help with Pre-emergents. I am in Athens, Georgia and was wondering what is a preferred pre-emergent of some of you guys and the best ways to apply it? I have several customers asking about pre-emergents but I don't know much AT ALL about it. I have already used the search button in case you were wondering but not happy with the results I found thus far. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its basically a product that prevents most seeds from germinating. You apply it as a preventive measure so you dont find yourself fighting a yard full weeds throughout the season.
Im going out on a limb and assuming you dont have a spray tank so you may be looking for a granular product. The stonewall 0-0-7 is an excellent product if applied correctly. A bag covers about 10K sqft. You are looking at around $18-$25 a bag at you local John Deere Landscape. I used it a couple years ago with great results, but now I spray and use a different product. I hung out with my John Deere rep for a bout an hour last week and that stuff was flying off the pallets. That would be my recommendation.

Others may have a different recommendation.

Hey thanks a lot Clallen! I might try that stuff. I have a Solo Backpack sprayer and also a spreader. Seems to me granular in a spreader would be faster than a backpack sprayer. One of my best friends works for Greensouth. Thanks for that valuable info! Anybody else got anything?

There's a lot of hairy bittercress out there in bermuda lawns and Dimension is the only pre-emergent I know of that controls it, so if you're spraying a postemergent to kill it and applying Stonewall or Pre-M, you'll probably have to spray again in a few weeks to kill more bittercress. I also like that the rate is typically lower than for other products.

Uncle Josh: What is the grass or turf that you are treating with pre-em? There's good product that many overlook when searching for a pre-em. It is XL 2G. It comes in a 50lb bag and can be applied by itself without any fertilize. If your turf is centipede then Gallery would be the best choice. On Centipede, be aware NOT to use any chlorine based potassium in your fertilize. Let us know that turf type for further info.
