The Operator Controlled Discharge Chute (OCDC) is another topic that comes up quite a bit. I made a short video of the factory optional OCDC from eXmark for those that may be interested. It integrates extremely well with the mower and is very much out of the way. Once the video finishes processing, it'll be available in HD (probably 20 minutes or so from now).

Video is here:

The chute needs to go from 0 to 180 degrees instead of 90, so it doesn't get caught on things.
You're right about that. If there was a 'flaw' with the eXmark designed OCDC, that is the only one I can see. I imagine though, because they are the manufacturer of the mower too, they wanted to be very safety (lawsuit) conscience and so they were careful to make it so it would work with the original discharge chute reinstalled over top of the OCDC. But yes you're right...it does stick straight out to the side so getting really close to something with the OCDC open can be an issue. On the other hand, one could argue that if you're so close to something that it catches on the open OCDC, maybe you should have it closed at that point anyway. Just a thought.
