You have a great setup! How many employees do you currently have? Your trucks are all really nice.
ProTurf, are you guys strictly all poly, or do you run PVC mainlines for your irrigation?
also, is the 255 your main machine for pulling pipe, and would you recommend it?
that's a nice truck! what kind of tonnage can you haul?
We looked at that leaf truck also. Something didn't seem right about it so we passed.
What's the difference you find in a chevy 3500 v f550?
Thanks for the kudos...we run around 20 employees right now between the field, office & shop.
We are 95% poly for everything.
We have been using a 255 since we started and it has always been able to get the job done. I have been wanting to upgrade to a bigger machine for a few years now, but there is always something else to buy instead. One of these days we will make the upgrade. The 255 has treated us well for what we do, which is mostly residential installs.
Here is a pic of the 255 in action earlier this season...not the best pic
I believe we are hauling a good 10 tons of stone around in that thing. It pulls like a dream compared to our older truck. It's got the electric tarp & air tailgate latches...ooohh it's nice! Ya don't even need to get out of the truck to dump for the tarp or latches etc. We are going to be doing LED lights in the body this winter & also putting in a few coal chutes in the tailgate.
That's a good way to put it...something wasn't quite right.
We just bought a small 10 yard leaf vac trailer setup. One of our guys is headed down to Virginia today to pick it up. It's not nearly the size of that one in NJ, but it will do the trick.
The main difference is the GVW and how much you can haul around. The 550 is a much more solid truck. If you have the use for it then it's a great truck. It would not make sense to mow with a 550 because everything costs more to maintain...bigger tires, brakes, costs more to register & insure etc etc.
Also, the GVW on the 550 is 19,000 i believe. As soon as we put one of our mowing trailers, or bobcat trailers on it (10k gvw trailer) it becomes a CDL-A vehicle.
Our F-550 is a 2003 and it has 90k miles and still treats us well. We have definitely sunk some $$ into it over the years but overall it's a very solid truck and nice to have in the fleet. We won't be buying another one though because our days with Fords are all done.
