Relatively new to posting but have been reading these forums and have gotten a lot of good information from them. I need some help from you guys if you don't mind me asking as I have a customer who wants her yard overseeded which is something I have yet to try.

Property is a corner lot about a 1/3 acre total. Existing turf was installed sod about four years ago according to owner.

    • My questions are when is best time to overseed (spring or fall)?
    • What grass seed would you recommend (mid-Atlantic state)?
    • What is the method or what are the steps?
    • What would you all think is a fair price to charge?

Appreciate whatever help/pointers any of you may be able to pass along.

    1) fall is best time, spring is second best time - if you do in spring be aware that the summer could beat up on new seedlings and there will be competition with weeds, depends on severity of the summer, might mean to redo some areas in fall again.

    2) Turf type tall fescue / perennial rye / 10% blue grass - this gives best combo.

    3) Slice seeding for large areas, Grass Stitcher (www.grassstitcher.com) for small areas or places where the slice seeder won't reach.

    4) General rule of thumb is $100 / 1k sq ft to ($150 if your killing off everything first.)
