I have a 2002 walker, 48" GHS with a 26 kohler. Ran the mower for approx. 3 hours today, stopped to replace blades and noticed there was no tension. I was able to swap them and tighten with torque wrench. Continued mowing for 5 minutes noticed a strange noise and there was smoke coming from the central gear box.

My local repair shop is a WEEK behind and said that it could be anything from a shear pin to the clutch or a belt. Does anyone have any experience with this, or should I bite the bullet and put it in the shop in the morning.

i wouldnt run it anymore you might make the problem worse or even create new problems. look at it this way, its gotta be fixed, so the sooner u get it in the shop, the sooner u will get it back. do you have a backup mower? if you're like me and just starting out and what you have is really all you have, then thats tough luck but hopefully you can get it back soon.
