I get my oil filters from Advance Auto parts, it just takes some time to figure out which ones fit as they either can not or will not cross-ref it for you...

The one for my Kohler costs 3 dollars, compare to 10 bucks for the original.

Basically, bring your old one and if you're a regular like me, I just walk to the filters section and look until I find a close fit. The thread has to be the same but the gasket can be a tiny bit off (slightly larger or smaller diameter) so long it seals when you put it on, the rubber has to meet the metal circle which is usually a wider surface area so up to 1/4 inch diameter changes don't really make a difference on my machine.
Far as the microns and any other folklore that may come, if it's good enough for my bmw's, then it's good enough for my toros.
