Even though it a chemical...glyphosate based products are fairly benign. zero activity in the soil... kills roots....

Scythe is an organic, contact weed and grass killer which is composed of pelargonic acid and related fatty acids.

If they are not woody stemmed weeds you can try Natural Weed Control, It's a combo of 20% Vinegar and cold pressed orange oil, used on new growth in the heat of the day you often see results within an hour. I would keep the critters away only while you spray it just because of the strong vinegar smell, (makes my dog sneeze!) It does a good job for me.

The only problem with organic herbicides is that thy are burn downs only. A tough weed will always come back. As far as pet friendly, round up is perfectly safe for pets unless you pour it down their throats or hose them down with it. I challenged a friend of mine to show me hard data from a reputable source that shows any connection between normal pesticide use and premature animal deaths. That was 10 years ago and I'm still waiting. I love and use organic fertilizers, love compost tea. But as far as organic herbicides? They are terrible. And as far as pet safe? Splash some 20% vinegar in a dog's eyes and it will be blind forever. Splash some round up in it's eyes and it will bark at you and then go on its merry way.

i believe it is banned only during times of heavy rain to prevent leaching out of the soil and into ground water....

But I don't think UK is part of the ban...as weed mentions...

Don't look for 'Roundup' - just the active ingredient glyphosate. If you buy the name Roundup, you are paying extra to pad Monsanto's pockets.
