Pine straw as mulch (herbicide danger)

    Sorry if this is stupid. I know that Pine straw acts as a herbicide as it breaks down. When used as mulch is it bad enough to hurt trees such as oaks and palms?

    Nope, pine straw will not hurt them in the least.

    I agree...it won't hurt the trees or shrubs. We use it around everything.

    Not sure about that, I've got maple seedlings growing out of some old bales.

    Yeah, I've never heard of it acting like a herbicide when it breaks down.
