I've got a lady, my old neighbor, that has some heavily shaded areas that have large oak trees with huge root systems. Keeping grass has been an issue and lots of erosion. Been thinking about planting some clover to fill in areas. Micro clover seed is expensive so I've been looking at food plot clover. Much cheaper per pound. She's in the city and gets a few deer though her yard occasionally. I don't plant food plots so I don't know anything about that variety of clover. Any reason besides attracting deer not to use it?

My brother has a fenced area for his kids and 3 dogs. With 2 huge oaks inside. Lots of bare areas there as well, I mentioned spreading some clover seeds to fill in the bare areas as well. Stuff I've read about micro clover being hearty and being more successful in places grass has a hard time surviving in intrigues me. Neither yard is lawn of the month quality. Just need the green to fill in and stay around.

I don't have any experiance with microclover, but here is a link that might be helpful to you:

This company, Outsidepride claims that their "Mini-clover" is suited for partial shade.
Might suit your situation.
