It’s too late to seed. March or September. Salvage what you have for now. Crabgrass has germinated in hot spots in ct.
Literally what?? You are in CT and advising to seed in March? What is the soil like 35 degrees in March? Its obviously a bit more temperate there than here in SE MN BUT not that different, we are just getting into spring seeding season NOW and the soil is still a bit too cold to germinate anything. Crabgrass doesn't appear around here until Memorial Day or beyond.

I am going to advise against the grain and say seed now when the soil temps get right for germination. Take advantage of the spring rains. Too often here, late summer seeding gets zero rain, gets scorched, and then you have the fall leaf cover than can choke out seeding too. It SHOULD be a great time to seed, but it depends on the conditions. Last few years here, fall seeding time has been mega drought. You are just farting in the wind seeding in that.

Seeding season is over here in ct. As a landscaper you can make money and I get that. I have 1 shmuck out there now seeding lawns. I can’t apply dimension until 2 weeks after it germinates, ( if it does) no weed spray for 4 cuts so 6 weeks or so. Your into mid June with out a weed spray and a thin new turf lawn w a 1 inch root system. It’s dead by July everytime. Seed in March, it’s a dormant seeding and germinates when’re soil temps are right. I don’t take lawns seeded past April 15-20 it’s not worth the hassle. It’s been 70’ -75’ and 50 at night for two weeks. Meso lasts for like a month and it’s impossible to schedule ppl in between regular visits who seeded in spring. I’m saying it’s doable but a losing battle in most cases. Why waste the time and money? Crabgrass is germinating, you’ll have to water so much it’s going to get disease all summer. If it was my home I could pull it off but for a rookie, no bueno.
Must work different there. Throwing seed out here AFTER snow cover is gone, but on top of stone cold soil, is like pissing in the wind. Little use doing it. And I've tried, ZERO germination the seed just sits or birds pick it off before it germinates. I get your sequencing and agree with that, but not seeding in March. True dormant seeding happens like Nov/Dec LAST year.
