    Hey Guys,

A Lawn Maintanence customer of mine asked me how much it would be to install a wooden retaining wall about

    8ft long and 4-5ft high.

Any Ideas on what I should charge?? I have to remove the old collapsed brick wall and a few schrubs as well?

    Please Help!!

sit down and figure everything that has to be done, EVERYTHING. Determine how long it will take, times that by your man per hour rate. Add mark up and profit plus materials. I always try and add on $25 then take it off if they ask for a discount. Simple math, son. We can't give you all the answers, that wouldn't be any fun! Use your head and the body will follow.

I would advise against a wood tie wall. If the wall is retaining a lot of soil, you'll no doubt have a lot of hydrostatic pressure. You should definitely consider some kind of drainage system behind it. If you do decide to use ties, make sure you bury at least 3 courses and use some good re-bar. I would also suggest the use of dead-men, drainage weep holes and at minimum a 1" set back for every successive tier after ground level. You may also want to check out a "mortise & tenor" wall system.

It is 8 - 10 feet in length. Only a small wall!!

At four feet tall, I'm wondering, does the wall have a return on the ends?
