i kind of new at the"other than lawn mow thing". i have a yard that i bid on mowing today and he was asking what i could do for his lawn problem.last year had a big trench dug and the company that did it back fill it,seeded it and put straw on it. it seem as though they put way to much straw down cause the area came in spotty and you can still see alot of broken down straw but grass isnt groing in these places. so i recommended i come in rake up the left over straw(the area gets lots of sun) aerate(gonna do the whole yard anyways) seed, then put down a starter fert. in that order, in the same day. what do you think, or what would you do

Run a soil test, aerate, I would slit seed.Finish up with the starter fert. And you might want to check the thatch layer.
