pruning rose of sharon

    would it be ok to trim a rose of Sharon in northeast pa. now? if ok, how far can I cut it back? thank you..

    Yes, and as with most trees or shrubs--prune out crossing branches, inward growing, water sprouts--all not to go over 1/3 of the tree or shrub.

    I pruned mine last week during one of those beautiful sunny days. The wood on these is very soft. Loopers or Felcos are about all you'll need. Prune out some of the large growth also. These things are so prolific and will put out more than you took off in one season.
