The label does not say to use one. I called PBI Gordon and inquired and the man said you don't "need" to.

However, I'm pretty sure I have read on here that some guys say its not worth a damn if you don't use a sticker.

Im one who believes in following labels. However, sometimes real life usage can trump the advice on a label. Thoughts on this?

I use it with a sticker and have good results. Seems like overall typically whatever you're using a sticker provides better results. If the label doesn't say to not use a sticker then I'd say you're still following the label. If I remember correctly the label doesn't mention a sticker at all does it?

Ive used Q4 and Q4 plus and the old pre plus you did need a little help from a sticker but the plus has higher rate of Q and you make out better than you did on the old on crabgrass.

I feel that, since Quinclorac is a Auxin( Plant Growth hormone regulating) receptor targeting herbicide, the use of a surfactant will help grabbing on to crabgrass stalks, leaves, and stems surfaces better. The mode of action results is mostly the same either way...........a week or more.
I am with you on following the label as well as reducing my output costs to the customer but sometimes you have to try a couple of areas and do test runs. It is better to be safe than sorry.

That's right, I should have said Q4 plus which is what I used. I forgot there was the older Q4.

Thanks ThinkGreen. Makes sense what you said. I took a bunch of pics of the property right after I sprayed. Im getting ready to post them here in a few. Will get to see results of Q4 Plus without sticker. I feel since the label doesn't say to add and the guy I poke to at PBI Gordon said no sticker I SHOULD be ok.

Do you do a blanket coat or spot spray when using Q4? I have some crab grass issues that need therapy through out my yard. Just wondering, spot spraying can seem tedious.

I usually spot spray but the yard was so terribly bad I had to blanket spray. This also happens to be a yard I gave an estimate to to take care of for the full season. They declined and decided to take care of it themselves. Once they saw a neighbors yard down the street that I do take care of they changed their mind and had me back to get them out of this weed infested predicament they put themselves in

ok , I found this thread I started last summer. Spraying tomorrow with Q4 plus for first time since last year. What rate of surfactant would be good since the lable doesn't have any info? Im thinking .5 ounces per gallon. What do you think?

Surfactant are used at about one-half percent. That is .64 ounce per gallon. I would use an ounce per gallon in a hand sprayer. Cost is not much of a factor.
In a large tank you would be a little more careful more costly.

I'll be using a 3 gallon backpack sprayer. Still an ounce per gallon?

that seems a little high to me. I would go half that.

The reason they don't recomend a surfactant is primarily because of the risk of phytotoxicty, because of the sulfentrazone. Since Q4 has hardly enough sulfentrazone in it anyway I think a little surfactant would be OK. You're only getting nutsedge suppresion with Q4, not control. Sulfentrazone reduces the "need" for a surfactant. Look at the Solitare and Dismiss labels. Quinclorac should be used with MSO, organo-silicones, etc, not spreader stickers.

In my recent tests. I used several rates of surfactant. Even at several times the usual rate, that is at 1.8 percent---there was no injury to the grass. I used it with Speedzone.

I am still trying to find the proper rate of surfactants. And whether or not they help at all. And on what kind of weeds. And if the time of day makes any difference.

i use Q4 at the 2.5 rate per 1000 and i see the best results on the button weed and other broadleaf weeds when backpacking it. As for crab and sedges i use dismiss and drive. in a mix of bermuda and fescue properties here in the piedmont of NC. Meaning there is literally a mix of fescue and common bermuda and a couple of 419 properties. I usually use MSO on everything this time of year except sedges since the label for dismiss says to NOT use a surfactant. If it wasnt for the control of buttonweed id still be using 3 way
