So I was requested to submit a Retaining Wall bid, about the dimensions: Two curved (Half Moon Sections) for a total of 26' and another straight section which is actually in the middle for 4'. The guy wanted me to supply everything, mulch, edging, stone, drainage etc. He then has the gut to tell me he could do this himself for less, LOL???? All i could say is yes you could, i just responded to your request :)

Am i wrong to think that was a good deal for him? I am fairly new to the landscape aspect, but i think people forget what is ACTUALLY involved in work, landscaping jobs are not usually cake walks, its dirty hard hot work! Sorry i am just venting :(

WELL YA!!!! He could do it for himself, BUT u need to realize he is buying your time from u in this business. I mean, think of it this way, In this biz, he is purchasing your time (the time God gives u to live on this planet) to do the wall. He must pay for it otherwize you are not doing this as a biz, you are doing charity!
With his attitude you are probably just better off seeking other work/clients

    hard to say.

how much was the cost of materials?

how many hours do you think it would take to do the job?

I estimate about 2 guys 20 hours, this is including the dirt delivered leveled, mulch as well, . I thought this was a good deal personally. He had another bid the guy would not touch the wall for under 2300 dollars.

I've only done a few 2-3 course border type walls and even those take a time to excavate, level, stack, level, stack, level,....................... Not to mention make it look good. Most do-it-yourselfers have good intentions when they start a project. Then just get tired and beat doing the work so they may finish it kinda bad. So like someone else said its your time and the convenience of you doing it. Just like going to a convenience store costs more than the grocery store, its just more convenient and you pay a premium for that. Thats how I try to think of my business.
