question on size/thickness of rail?

    I'm building rail on my trailer. I got all the up-rights welded in place. Going to be buying angle for the top rail going around it. Would you go with angle at 1.5 inch..or 2 inch? also, how thick- 3/16"..or 1/8th? Geno

    I would go for the 2" angle, the 1.5' is pretty small. 2" is about what all trailers use for the top rail, and as long as youve got enough support pieces( 1 vertical support every 15" I think it is), you can use 1/8" thick, the top rail is not going to be supporting any weight anyway.

    Just curious what you all pay for a 20ft piece of angle up there? Down here in KY, we pay around $20 for a 20ft, 2"x2"x1/8" thick from a regular steel yard. It did go up to $75. back when steel was really high! Ive heard steel is cheaper up there around the great lakes though.

    Hi and thanks Mike- I paid $36.60 + $6.00/1-cut last month for 2x2 @ 3/16" thick and 20' long
