    Hi All,

Newbie here. I have tried to find this information the forum but so far no luck (probably not searching the correct terms).

I have successfully sealed half dozen or so driveway with Black Mac. All were grey and obviously not sealed in a long time. But I have a few customers who have asked me to spray their driveway and they have had water based sealers applied within the last two years (driveway look like crap!) and some even last year. What do I have to look for when planning to spray over previously sealed driveways? What driveways should I avoid if I don't know what product was applied previously?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I have Sealed a few driveways over water based stuff, minimum 2-3 years old with no problems . Driveways were not flaking and looked good with Blackmac.

If the driveway is not flaking and is not still real slippery, and minimum 2 years since last sealed then it is ok to spray Blackmac

I have found over the years that a fresh sealed 1-2 year driveway with a thick amount of bucket crap: acrylic, latex, water based. The black mac sealer will not cure properly and will cause the sealer to be easily track into the house, it just doesn't do a nice job.

Black mac will adhere better and have better results with a grey oxidized driveway.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

Well, I gave it a go and paid the price. The sealer went on nice, and walking or driving over it leaves no marks, but when the customer parks his car, it leaves tire prints. It was two years since the driveway was done, and the previous guy sprayed first, then came back and brushed something else on because the first application looked bad. No clue what the stuff was, but customer was not happen then, and not so happy now. Not sure what to do actually. Maybe I sprayed too heavy?

What happens when you apply Black Mac too heavy? I used less sealer than I thought though...strange one.
