once you learn how to use the ratchet binders they are nice and quick...plus you don't need to carry a bar with you...the trick is when you are unloading a machine you need to run the binder out more then required...if you run the binder out only enough to unhook the chain then the next time you tie the machine down you will have to run them out then individually...run them out all the way to the end and when you tie down the machine the next time you might only have to turn the lever a few times before it gets good and snug

we only use rachets..they are safer in the fact you don't have to worry about kickbacks, you dont have to worry about falling off a trailer or slipping when you try and tighten them, and like CAT mentioned you can easily tighten them if they get loose
