Looking to reseed a lawn here in KY in mid september. Having trouble getting a good stand all year. This yard has some amounts of crab grass, but is over taken with johnson grass. What is the best thing to do. Total kill? Or spray with ex: poast. to just kill out the johnson grass and just use preventer in the spring for the crab grass. Also does any one have an opinion on seed selection? Falcon fescue/ kentucky bluegrass/ and rye? Any opinions would be appreciated. Soil samples have been pulled and sent off. Lawn is about an acre. Thanks for any help

I heard of Johnson Grass, in the context of a lawn grass, of choice, back in the ol' days. I looked it up but don't remember what I found. :)

    How prevalent is it?

I don't know anything about Johnsongrass. But if you have to kill it--act fast so you can add seed when temps drop below 85.
Consider a new improved fescue (TTTF) like one with the ability to spread and heal thin spots. Maybe Titanium LS would suit your needs.

sounds like you need to total kill it.

Does anyone have any experience with this TitaniumLS ? Having a fescue that spreads would be great !
