I have a 60 inch turf tracer with a kohler command cv20s. I called www.Repowerspecialist.com and they sound extremely confident that I can replace this with a Honda GXV630. They claim to include a wiring harness to mate with the stock harness and make the swap work as it should. The kohler is 20.5 hp and the honda is 24.5hp. Any advice regarding this swap and the honda? Thanks.

I cannot speak to your specific repower situation but I have recommended Repowerspecialist.com to many people and I have never heard of any issues with fitment. The harness that they supply that adapts to the stock harness is something no one else offers, that I am aware of.

OK. Thanks. How do you feel about the Honda gxv630 line of motors vs Kohler Command? The actual Honda motor can be found on the internet for $1400. But, the repower kit is $2080. Repower will match the $1400 motor only price, but will not budge on the price of their kit. They claim that the wiring harness, exhaust and knowledge is worth the extra $680. That just seems steep. But, maybe the Honda is better than the Kohler. I was originally just going to put the Kohler back on, but, this will give me at least 2 more HP.

Not knocking the Honda by any means. That said, I have had good results using a Kohler Confidante 21 hp engine. It will be a good bit cheaper. 3 year warranty. Mine is right at 1100 hours with no problems other than a bad coil from the factory.

I think you will find members who swear by Honda and others that will sing the praises of Kohler. I have never had any issues with either engine

Look, the wiring ain't no big deal. Match motor wires to mower wires.Dont need to be plugs, can easily be spliced. Diagrams readily avail.
Online search fer a muffler will turn up something u can use. See what the Honda exh. Pipe looks like, right? Looks to be a b&s muff. in pics.
U should be able to come in for way less than the "kit", no?

Might want to search "Taryl Fixes All" on YouTube. He did an engine swap and showed how to complete to wiring between the two engines and making necessary modifications to the exhaust. Good luck, can't wait to hear how it works out!

I will look at the youtube clip later today for sure. I need all the safety switches, hour meter and all to work as it should. I don't want it half-assed. But, I agree that nearly $700 is quite a premium to pay over the price of the engine for the exhaust and harness. Is this Honda used in Scag or Exmark applications? I want to make sure that I am not bolting up something that would be used on a cub cadet at Home Depot. Thanks for the help guys. My Kohler is backfiring when not under load and is using about 1quart of oil after 6-7hrs. It lets out random puffs of smoke. It is still working hard, but it won't for much longer. I now have 3290 hours on it.
