River rock and red tipple

I have a customer getting a massive 40 x 50 deck with fireplace and whole entertainment center installed. He wanted me to install a bed of 1 - 3 river about 2 feet wide and then run a foot of red tipple on the outside of that bed around the whole outside of the deck. Then sod everything. I have done both types of stone but never together. Anyone put both in and how did it look. You would have to run edging on either side of the tipple to contain everything. Just looking for thoughts on mixing.

You could use steel edging or paver restraint edging to separate the two types of rock ,but keeping a real straight line might be tough. How about suggesting a soldier course of red or clay pavers on the outside of the river rock. That would still give the red color band effect on the outside.

Have to use a good quality paver edging and a string line go seperate it. People do bands all the time around me and even mix mulch and stone in same beds. I think it looks too busy I always say pick one. Stone beds always collect leaves dirt etc. I'm not a fan of them
