I am getting into the rototilling business and am curious what is an acceptable rate to charge? I have a 5ft. wide pto powered rototiller that is pulled behind a 30hp tractor.

I came up with a pricing scheme that ranges from $.05 a sq. ft for small jobs under 1000 sq. ft ($50) and as low as $.01 a sq. ft for jobs 1 acre ($437) and up. This price includes transporting it to the job site unless it is more than 10 miles away, more than that and I charge $5 for every additional 10 miles.

What do you guys charge? Do you charge per sq. ft, by the hour, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might want to think of a charge for xx hours with a 2 hour minimum. You’d need to figure out what your operational costs,, overhead etc.

For example when I spray a lawn, it’s $40 stop fee and $4/1000sq ft. I’m not sure that would work but gives you a starting point!

Yea 2hr min I do. I really don’t like doing it by the sq ft since some are harder then others. That whi lean more towards hourly.

It's been over 10 years since I done small garden tilling Most was 20 x 20
I was using a front tine tiller that, I could load and unload by hand,
I charged between 60 and 80 depending the access of where the garden was located on the property, I did not put much thought into the tilling, It got me out, to make a buck, in the beginning of being self employed. Nowadays I would be closer to 100 for a 20x20

Question? How long would it take you to till up an acre?
With a tractor and implement I would be looking at $120 per hour.
Also just figure in drive time at your going rate.
You said you charge $5 for 10 miles. That's only $0.50 per mile. Bump that up to $2.00 per miles.
