So noticed the other day that the work truck (04 Silverado 1500 ext cab) hitch was dropping closer and closer to the ground. Finally got so bad had to take her off the road. Cracked clean thru on one side and crazy buckling on the other. Took that off today and replaced with a Curt 16/17k pound class V hitch, the metal is way thicker than the frame rails. Back to full production tomorrow. Should have done this a while back.

If you still got a couple bucks laying around could always look into a Gen Y torsion receiver hitch. Thumbs Up

Is it an illusion in the last photo, or is the ball canted aft?

Yeah would not have been good for it to give way completely as the breakaway wire is connected there as well.
It's just an illusion with the cell camera being close. It's totally upright with the 4" drop draw bar placing the trailer coupler in the sweet spot. The old hitch was canting prob 30 degrees down at the end stage.

Nice. Hitches on those year models are a breeze to change. Wish they were all like thatThumbs Up

Shame on you for telling me such a product exists. I had looked at the geny gear earlier but had no idea they sold these....$659 for the 16k version..... I better settle for my forged Curt 4" drop and 20k ball. Everything feels much tighter back there with the new hitch. Most I usually pull is an 18 ft tandem utility with a 7000 lb rating.

Just did the same job here! Exact same hitch lol.. I replaced the bumper too. And tire hoist. And hoist tube. And trailer plug.

Since the new hitch rides a couple inches lower i cobbled together a spacer to bolt the hitch to the bumper in the middle.
