Scag PTO Removal - Need Advice.

    This PTO is ON THERE! I've tried the the 2x4 with downward pressure, a gear/pulley puller (started to look like it was going to mis-shape the pulley). I'm sort of stuck. I was thinking of using a bearing separator - hoping that the more dispersion of effort might do the trick. Have you guys ever tried using a bearing separator

    (Problem is that I don't own one and if I can't borrow one, the only place that I know that has a reasonable one is Harbor Freight - $50).

    Where did you get a new engine for $1,000.00 ?

    I bought it on Ebay from the SmallEngineWharehouse.com / (800) 321-6725 Toll Free. They shipped it VERY FAST. I bought it on Friday and it was at my door on Monday. It was a factory blem/scratch and dent - but new w/a 2 year warranty. I think they had 4 left. Good luck - they've been very easy and helpful to deal with.

    This PTO is STUCK! I can't get this thing to budge for the life of me. I'm about ready admit defeat and throw in the towel and take it to the local garage.

    OK, There's one last way to try.

    You said the clutch would not go through the frame.

    Remove all four engine mount bolts. Move the unit under a roof rafter, A-frame, BIG tree limb or use a cherry picker.
    Hook a chain to the engine and use a com-a-long up to one of the above and jack the whole back of the unit off the ground maybe about a inch or so.

    Insert the largest drift punch possible into the crank bolt hole and put the BFH to work on it.

    With the weight of the whole rear of the unit pulling down on the clutch something has got to give.

    check there is not a grub screw hidden on pto.

    Update: I took the unit in to the local shop - figuring that these guys have probably seen 100s of hard to get off clutches. Unfortunately, they gave up too..... said it was frozen on there!! Finally had them cut it off with a torch (ouch!). I didn't want to do it because I don't have a lift and would have to work with the torch while laying on my back. Now I have to grind off or pull the fozen bearing that probably remains and then cross my fingers that I can get the top pulley off (although I'll be able to remove the engine off the unit before I pull the pulley and spacer).

    be sure to put some anti-seize on the new pulley before installing it on the new engine
