    If so, leave it alone!

I'm assuming its a gear drive 36" or 48" Walkbehind.

It takes a Bentonite or "00" grease. I'm sure that there are guys that add or change it, but I figure for less than $200 I can have a whole new transmission! My first SCAG had over 1000 hours when I bought it and I put at least another 1000 on it and only ever replaced the engine. Tranny was a bit loose and sometimes you couldn't tell what gear you were in , but it was still working when I sold it.

I say don't mess with it!

Sounds like a peerless transmission. If you have the gears and can shift in and out( you shift keys are not broken), dont change it. Its thick like a cross between axle greas and gear lube. That stuff is nasty, expensive, and extremely hazardous.
