Scag vs. Toro

I demoed a scag tiger cub (52" cut with a 24 horse honda) for the last two days. Very impressed. Stopped at a Toro dealer and he wants me to demo one of his units (Z1000 52" cut 23 horse Kawasaki). The Toro is $900 cheaper, but that dealer won't take mine in trade. I don't want the hassle of trying to sell it, and the Scag semms soooooo bullet proof. Wondering if the Toro is worth my time or should I go for the Scag?

Seems bullet proof is deceiving..

Nothing is bullet proof......

You answer is simple.....get the one who will take your mower on trade...That's what you want.
C&S

I have a Scag Tiger cub 48 w/ KW23. I also have a Toro Z100/42 w KW19 Rather similar to your choices.

The Scag is heavier construction and much more durable. The Toro is lighter so the HP difference seems to matter little.

Everyday maintenance on the SCAG is much easier. Adjustments to deck, controls, brakes, etc are also easier with the SCAG.

The cut on both is comparable. On the Toro, there is more clipping front blow out on the leaving a lot more dirt and grass on your face, eyes and clothes.

Both have about 400 hours and the small repairs have been about the same.

If I were buying another today..... it would be SCAG

Good luck

Buy the Scag but get the Kaw engine. I have been using Scags for 19 years and used to have a dealership that sold Scag, Toro, and Grasshopper. The Scag is the best built period. Sold my interest in the store cause I could not stand to be inside all the time.
