Seed over crabgrass

At a test on September 2nd, 2019--an untreated lawn was heavily infested with crabgrass. One sqft plots were treated with Drive, and then immediately seeded with annual rye. One teaspoon per sqft--about 10 pounds per thousand sqft--and 2,3 or 4 teaspoons. Day temperatures were about 75 F. and the plot was not irrigated--although some rain occurred. The crabgrass faded out and the annual rye took hold most densely where the seed rate was very high.

I had some lawns that were new construction and was seeded around June. August I sprayed them with drive, and came back Sept 1st and overseeded and adjusted irrigation. Turning out nice

One lawn I just didn’t get Drive put down. I just waited till Sept and seeded it. Getting about the same results as you are. Will worry about crab next year

It is amazing. Lots of dense annual rye came up after sowing annual rye immediately on top of Drive that had been sprayed on crabgrass. Maybe the crabgrass helped.
I wonder if perennial rye would work the same.

Never thought of crabgrass as a plush seed bed
