just raked up small yard, want to seed it now. Is the dirt and some topsoil enough, or is peat moss better? Also, can I put down fertilizer at same time?

Generally , the existing topsoil does not need amending . You can use a seed starter fertilizer but follow the directions closely for timely application . It is essential to keep the seedbed moist during the germination period , which varies by grass type.
