Is anyone finding it beneficial to take extra plant material on site on the day of a planting?

I completed a job the other day where we had minimal plantings scheduled for plant day for budgetary reasons. While picking up the plant material, I got a good deal on some other plants so I decided to take them with me and if she wanted them I would plant them, otherwise, they would find a home in some of the new beds i put in my yard. Anyway, after placing the new plant material I got a "boy that looks nice". I then proceeded to tell show her the propsed plantings then my thoughts with the new plants and the incremental price (which was only $40 more).

My question is this something that others do to sell in additional material??
