Echo may be trying push too much air through the narrower elbow and flex tube. If you hold tube waist high and push WOT there very slight forced movement of tube tip.

I can say this- I ran all three of my BP's today for a while and the 800 is a lot more comfortable to operate than the 8010. The 8010 is definitely the stronger BP, no question of that, but the 800 is no slouch and it seems to have a much more useful air stream farther out from your position than the 8010. The 8010 tube feels like swinging a truck axle around after running either the 800 or the 802, but it doesn't take long to get back into doing the 8010 body shuffle.

No deep leaves here yet as they are just getting going on turning colors, but for what I was doing today in heavy grass clippings, quite a bit of pine straw, and at least a decent covering of both colored and green leaves, I definitely prefer the 800.

Comfort is a wash w/the new flex tube. That was really only advantage for 800. Most preferred tube swing.

They took my info and said that they would get back to me about replacing thr elbow, since it was an earlier one. And I did not get a part number , but it appears that TT got it anyway

You not feeling swing is easier now ? With /old units used to have to pivot a bit to get full arc. Feels smoother now. I like 800 also but performance rules when leaves drop here.

The 8010 isn't bad at all to run once you get used to the stiff flex pipe. Now, with the new pipe, they may have it dialed in.

The 800 just has a great blend of power and control, and it has a very useful airstream, near or far. IMO, even though the 800's throttle isn't adjustable for pitch, Stihl has always had a very good throttle handle design/shape/angle and is near perfect for me. Even with chest straps on all my BP's, the 800 stays in place better than my 8010. Still, when the leaves get deep, all that raw power in the 8010 is nice to have, and I am glad I have mine.

One area that Stihl could improve is the back padding down at the bottom of the frame. It needs to be thicker and softer. Maruyama has that down to new perfection.

The first few times I ran the 800, it seemed great on fuel, but them all of a sudden it was using it like crazy, Now for the last several tanks of gas, it has been great again.

It may not last or start to develop issues, but as of right now, I am very glad I bought it.

The new flex pipe is better, but look at the plastic elbow- it is longer and has a different curve to it that puts the flex pipe down and out a bit farther as well. That should make the swing a lot better.

@Ridin' Green that is where the change is. The tube is actually stiffer it's the actual angle out of housing that changed the swing. If the top of straps were adjustable I would not have one complaint honestly. I just think the tops of shoulder pads is a bit wide.

$60 and pennies for a retrofit. Would order ASAP if you want it. Apparently supply limited this Fall.

So do I. They need to attach to the main frame closer together. Good to know about the flex pipe being stiffer/elbow making the difference. I may call my dealer in a day or two and see if they can order what I need yet. It'd be nice of Echo just made a complete kit with its own part number for those of us that want to swap over. It'd be better still if they just send it ti me .........

Not sure they need a kit. Just 3 pieces easily identifiable from exploded parts.

Looks like maybe some washer or something is also needed. regardless, if they bundled it as a kit, it'd make it easier for guys to go to a dealer and order just what they want/need. Most of us have dealt with all sorts of dealers and know a lot of the time they know less than we do about this stuff.

True. I ordered just the flex pipe and didn’t realize needed other 2 parts until I tried fit it.

guys definitely grab the 810 before the 8010’s so it’s popular.

I've now got 3... If they would provide those parts to me, I would be a loyal echo purchaser.

Old 8010 was the best blower on the planet with or without new flex tube. Echo don’t owe us nothing.

If you want the upgrade pay the $60 to support their R&D

That's BS. They didn't do their job in R&D. Period. Paid their asking price and I paid plenty for this unit. No one should have to spend the money they charge for these things and then have them improve them only a couple months later and have to pay to get the upgrade. I could see it after a couple years or something, but not after only a few months. It is the strongest BP out for sure, and it is a good unit. But that doesn't make it the best other than in your opinion. They all have good points and they all have flaws. The stiff flex pipe and elbow swing are clear examples of it otherwise they wouldn't be trying to correct it so soon.

It’s just a comfort upgrade. You could have picked it up at dealer, swung it around and put it back on shelf. Or returned it after buying if such a big deal.

8010 classic works great for me. New 8010/810 just improved. Not worth of a recall.

No, I couldn't have. I needed it last fall, and had to order it from out east. No choice and no returns. No need for a recall, just offer the parts to anyone who has bought one within the last year if they want the upgrade. If they don't, that's fine and no skin off Echo's nose.
