Many guys like that are very far in debt and will not be around but a couple seasons if that! They go out and think they can make millions in their first season, then they see how difficult it is out there and end up selling all their pretty new mowers and trailers. Works out great for the guys who know this industry, cause they usually sell their stuff way below market value just to get rid of it fast so they can be on to their next get rich quick idea.

so your just speculating how much you think he mows, and makes??? maybe he has double your clients and charges more then you..... the old saying in landscaping is "the more professional you look, the more people expect to pay you" if you look like a scrub people expect to pay you less then the guy with the nice equipment.

He could charge more than you, have a bunch of accounts you don't know about, or he could be in debt. I see a lot of companies around here with more equipment than me. For now I have what I need, but as I grow I will add more new equipment.

I see it all the time...
PROCUT,
You have 600 clients and see that all the time? What does that tell you, you must not charge enough. Charge $5-$10 more per client and only do 300 and you will make the same amount of PROFIT if not more and work have as much. I started small in 1991 and paid cash for everything ever since and keep everthing I owned maintained and cleaned like its a piece of equipment that pays my bills.

Piece of advice fellows, keep your eyes to yourself, don't worry about what the
other guy's doing because while you're doing that I just made off with your customer.

Not that I would, but what I'm saying is when you're out there, once your eyes and mind start
to wandering you might plan on things starting that don't always end well, best advice I heard
from a guy when I first started, myob.

Could of not said that better myself. I have so many young kids come into my shop and get a good business started. Then try to be the guy who has been in business for 15 years and has 3 crews. They just get to deep, and go out of business.

I have actuauly told guys not to buy a new mower from me because its more proffitable to me for them to stay in business, then have them in debt and not afford to pay thier bills.

This is good advice. Don't get caught up in the game of comparing your stuff to what everyone else has. Concentrate on establishing a high quality, highly efficient company and you will achieve what others struggle to: profitability.payuppayup
