Side Bagger for a Zero Turn?

Right now I have a 60" Toro Z Master and I was wondering if I could put a metal side bagger on it. I understand that being a 60" deck, it would fill up extremely fast and would really be pointless. But my thought was for the fall and the leaves, I could blow them into a pile and just make a few passes over it to pick up the leaves. I would only be using it to pick up the leaves in the fall. I already have a pack' em metal bagger for another mower and I was wondering if I could just buy the mounting bracket, and it would work with the Z Master? I just don't want to spend the money on a vacuum bagger yet. Let me know if anyone has tried this. Thanks - Mike

If you don't have the money then your path is already laid out for you. I can give you some insight on this. I have a 60 lazer and a 52 lazer with trac vac systems that's a 44 gal barrel. I have a 44 lazer with a side bagger I also have a 36 wb with one too but that's not important. The side bagger on the smaller lazer works ok I suppose, it fills up fast and its very impractical for bagging any larger properties. 3000 sqft your be fine 20000 sqft your gona be swearing. I can get 3 full accelerator baggers in one 44 gal bucket at least. So most everything that is bagged is done with the collection systems and the smaller ones only when there is no choice. As for picking up leaves they fill up baggers much faster then grass does so good luck with that.

Thanks for the info. Money isn't an issue, i have actully found a nice used trac vac for sale on craigslist. I was just trying to find something less expensive, because I only bag during the fall. Anyways, how do you like the trac vac? I have read that people have mixed feelings.. Thanks - Mike

The advantages of the trac vac are it has its own engine so you do not steal power from the blades to make it work. When Iv used ultra cut systems before I found that when you hit the real tall grass and needed all the power you could get that was when the blades moved slower and so did that vac. Also when I don't bag I do not need to take that heavy impeller set up off the mower I just pull a long pin off the shoot and bungee the shoot on the deck and I'm good to go. Which is nice when you change your mind you can switch back and forth in the field not going back to grab or drop something off. Other sweet feature is you can use the vac to help deal with clogs you can't do that with a vac that uses the blades since the moment you jump off the safety switch wont let them turn so all clogs on those have to be dealt with by hand where the trac vac just a well placed kick is sometimes enough.

The disadvantages are they break their supports and the 6 hp kholers love to throw lifters or valves and typically need work once a year. That's why we keep a spare so if one goes down we just bolt another engine on takes about 20 mins and were back out in the field. I try to give both sides but in this product we found the advantages out weighed the disadvantages and we will be using them for years to come. There are a lot of models of them out there so check their site out and figure what model would best work for you before buying one used. Ours uses weights in the front so there are no wheels in the back but they do make plenty of wheel supported or tow behind models as well.
