What has everyone using for doing patio and wall work in backyards where theres fences?

We love to use our large skid but this year it seems we are bidding a lot more backyard projects that won't allow our big skid. We have used dingos and Bobcat Mt's in the past but they don't do very well as far as digging but obviously are better than a wheel barrow.

Seeing most people don't understand the idea of leaving access to their back yard but instead either plant trees, build garden sheds in the areas where if we could remove the fence we could possibly get a larger skid in.

I barely bring my big skidsteer to any job anymore. The guys always have the mini skidsteer in the install trailer and thing is worth every penny. I personally don't like the older dingo or bobcat mini skidsteer as I think there platform is horrible. I run a boxer mini skid and was looking to pickup a brand new Vermeer or ditch witch this year but ended up buying a brand new mini excavator. We have used our mini skid to move large amounts of base in areas the big machine wouldn't get into. if your doing a lot of digging pick up a mini excavator. It doesn't need to be anything crazy but will out dig a skidsteer and mini skidsteer without a issue. My excavator is under 5 ft wide has a 18" bucket and cut my dig out time in more then half on big installs.

no doubt the minis have their strengths in getting in spots where you just can't get the big machine. we run a Kubota SLV 75 on nearly all our jobs unless its these smaller jobs where it can't fit. I've never ran a boxer. have been seeing more people using them or Vermers around here in the last few years. I wasn't really impressed with the toro to bobcat. The PT30's have always interested me.. but they will not fit through a 36" gate… most of our jobs in years past have been large walls and patios in open areas so we have avoided the use of anything small. We rent excavators when we need them.. use them for base on walls for a day or two per project

We are in the same situation. Small gates yet lots of material.

It seems the maintence cost on these mini's is very high.... true?
Where do you get this info from. I had my first kx-41 mini excavator in 2004 and kept it for 10 yrs. It cost no more than fuel and grease. Oil changes are every 200 hrs or so, that's maybe one or two maximum a year. The upkeep is absolutely minimal.

Best set up for a small yard is mini ex and hydraulic wheelbarrow. No tearing up yard, the mini ex with thumb is even better, you can lift your heavy compactors, pick up rocks, set rocks, list goes on....... Leave the skid steers up front.

Two sources:

One is the owner/friend of a rental company. Said the mini's rent for nearly same cost due to high maintenance. But that could be cliental

Then a company I used to work for, had tracked mini's that were constantly needing track work.

Realize I have a small sample size, so I obviously could be completely wrong.

I got two muck trucks and a small subcompact tractor (kubota bx25. 52" at outriggers when backhoe is on. Fel is 48". Tractor is something like 43" iirc. I can get the machine through almost any gate with some creativity so long as the ground slopes decent.)
I imagine two motor wheel barrows and a mini ex could do well for some backyard troubles. Not as fast as a skiddy but better than digging & trucking it all by hand!

I believe excavating with hydraulic wheelbarrow would be quicker than using a small skid steer and traveling back-and-forth

How are you guys getting hydraulic wheel barrels into dump trailers? I know Ramps but after my trailer is about half full they don't work very good.

I dump the excavated material on the road or driveway and load the truck with my terex.
Yea that's what I do too just didn't know if there was an obvious way I was overlooking or not.

And no mine doesn't dump high enough for my trailer.
