Well last year I started using this sod dealer. Everything was working great...great prices...great services...great sod. Well, this year the company changed hands. The new guy running the company, doesn't know much about customer service at all. He rose all of the prices up $.15 a sq. yard, which is still $.20 cheaper than all of the competitors. I have been dealing with the bad customer service and the lousy organization skills, since it is cheaper. Today he tells me that I need to start storing the pallets, and he will come pick them up once a month. I told him I really don't have the facilities for that, and I really don't care to do that. He tells me he is losing his ass on picking up pallets. If he would route his driving better I am sure he would not be losing his arse.

    What should I do?

    Should I start storing pallets?

Should I tell me that its part of doing business, and its not my job to pick up pallets?

Should I pay more for sod and go with a quality dealer that been in business forever?

The reason all of this got brough up is that one of my customers called him to go pick up the pallets after they had been sitting in front of her yard for a week. I am surprised she called him instead of me.

I'd go to another sod farm.

He picks up his own pallets? Here they have services that do that and then they pay per pallet to the guys that collect them.

That what he should do...but he doesn't know how to run a business! Instead of paying someone to do it....he drives his semis all over town. To pick up pallets.

Time to start shopping for a new sod dealer then. See if you can't get another grower to price match.

The problem is there is only 3 in the area. The other 2 only give big discounts for very large companies.

Here they add $5 for the price of the pallet. When you bring it back you get your deposit back. What a moron. I would also switch to someone else.

Hmmmm....sounds like there is room for one more sod grower in your area. Think you may want ot go into that business? Find a farmer you can sharecrop from and you'll be in the payup

$8 per pallet here. I got 5 sitting here for when I do another sod job. Since they only give your credit for pallets.
