I'm wanting to submit a bid on a small sodding job aprox. 996 Sq. Ft. The area to be sodded has to have the existing grass removed and then graded. Any suggestions labor rate. I'm thinking .95-1.10 per Sq.

Well, heres what I do for an example, might not be a good one but it works for me.
I get the sod, say Fescue, for $85 for 450 sqft, I sale it to the customer for $110. Then charge $50 to $65 an hour for labor. the labor is for the prep work and laying the sod. you will need to adjust the labor rate depending on how many people are working, I am usualy solo, but do hire day labor occasionally, then I add their salery times 2 to my hourly rate, ie I pay them $8 hr, I then add $16 hour to my $50 hour for $66 hour total. make sence? I hope, it works for me

I charge $1 sqft for average size jobs, maybe a little more for one that small probably $1500, because of the equipment involved extra work in prep.

I charge $100.00 a pallet to lay sod if it's in rolls (zoysia). Squares are about $125.00 a pallet. If you're using a sod layer and getting the big rolls, still charge at least $100.00 in labor/450 square feet.

How you remove the old sod and what that involves is the big question. The prep work in this case is a bigger problem than laying the sod.

    If you do it right.

You all see surprised by my prices. The price I list is to LAY SOD. Not the price FOR THE SOD. Not the DROP CHARGE. Not the price for GROUND PREP. Not the price for SOIL AMENDMENTS. The original question on this thread was concerning the price of laying sod.

I wish I could get what you charge. Here you can get sod delivered and installed for $95 a pallet 450 sqft. from the sod farm.

If you had told me this three days ago, I would have laughed. But after losing a job to a low ball sod farm...I believe you. These guys are putting sod in for less (with sod) than my labor costs alone.
