spreading peat moss

i mostly use straw bales for seedings but have an upgrade option to peat moss with which ive had excellent luck with germination and coverage for the seed. the only problem is that its a pain to spread.

what ive been doing is opening up a 5 cu. ft. bale in a wheel barrow and then using shovels to shake it down over the ground. but doing this with 10+ bales takes a long time and is very dusty.

anyone have any other ideas?

ive also used the pelletized paper mulch product for the first time last year on a small repair. can this stuff be put through a spreader or how do you put this down?
