Starting New Business

I have been in the groundswork, landscape business for 15+ years as I worked for the National Park Service for 15 years. Maintaining 15,000 acres of grounds, roadsides and campgrounds. I did it all but now want to start my own business. I had a contract last year and it killed me in taxes because none was taken out when I filed my 1099. How can I make this work for myself and not tear me a new one at the end of the year? My name is out there and I can get a few more contracts but I cant afford to loose so much at the end of the year!! What can I do to remedy this problem and get on track to a money maken year? I got the means but not the end!

Sincerely,

Joseph D Michael
