Stiga park power rake = verticutter?

LawnSite Member

I have a power rake deck for my Stiga park and am wondering if I can use this as a verticutter, or if it *is* a verticutter for that matter. I'm a bit confused by the termonology power rake/verticutter/moss remover.

Here's a bit information about the power rake:

And here's the rake axle in detail:
The knives, or rather flails?, are hinged and not fixed as on the verticutters I've seen. They're about 3 mm or 0,12" thick and not sharpened.

Can I treat this deck as a verticutter or will these thicker flails tear up more of the lawn than desired? Should I try to fabricate thinner, perhaps fixed knives and mount them? Or just sharpen the existing flails?

The flails are designed to be easily interchanged for flail mower blades so changing the flails/knives is relatively easy.

Any thoughts on this?
