Good evening I’m a new member and this is my first post, but looking for some help and advice. So I’m sure this is in the wrong section and there’s been a million responses to older threads…

I’m a solo owner/operator as a side business and looking for a new main every day use trimmer. I currently run a Stihl 90r, have had it for several years and have had zero issues with it but it’s heavy and dosent swing like an echo SRM-225. I save the 90r for thicker stuff or brush cutting with a blade these days. My every day “run around” a house trimmer is a Echo SRM-225 and it’s been trouble free. Light weight, reliable, and parts when needed are cheap and easy to get. Down side to the Echo is it obviously lacks power when you get into thicker stuff “I run it with no guard”. Main thing is I don’t want to go back to the trailer to get a bigger trimmer to finish the job.

I’ve gotten the new trimmer narrowed down to either a Stihl 94r, 111rx, or Maruyama B300L.

I’ve handled the Echo 2620, Stihl 94r, and Maruyama b300L. “Haven’t touched a 111rx yet”. The Maruyama felt the lightest and most comfortable and has a solid shaft in case the 90r dies and I need to run a blade.

I do like all of my Stihl stuff and have had great experiences with Echo, but the Maruyama is very interesting. My main concern is dealer warranty fulfillment and parts availability if I need to work on it myself “which I can easily do”.

Also I’m not against trying different brands, but have a solid Stihl dealer right around the corner, Echo is 45 minutes, and two Maruyama dealers about 45 as well…. But no Husky or Redmax within reason, big box only for Husky.

I appreciate any help or advice with my struggle!

My only gripe's with Maruyama would be the dealer support and resale.... Are these established dealers and are they having issues with Maruyama that would make them drop the brand. Also, if you not happy with the unit and decided to sell it, who's gonna buy it because its an off brand. Im running into resale issues with my Redmax 3060ts, because its more of an off brand that nobody wants or looks for.

If you like the Stihl stuff and dont want to drive far for dealer support, then Stihl is the way to go. Ive owned many of their trimmers and still have my first fs85r and a fs250r. I cant really speak for the most current line of stihl trimmers, but i feel they have gone a little backwards with their 4 mix trimmers. Over the years they should have tried to slim them down more. I liked my fs90, fs110 and fs130 a lot. The torque of the 4 mix makes these trimmers a really powerhouse for heavy growth.

I also have the echo 2620 and 3020. Both units have great engines. These units might weigh a tick more, but I feel the performance out ways it. Plus you get away from a 4 stroke trimmer that has more moving parts. Since you run no guard, I would try the 2620t. If your interested in the 3020, I would get the regular version as it can pull long line very well. I run both my echos with no guard.

I’d say it mostly depends on your dealer and what’s closest to you. Not a lot of Maruyama dealers here, but they’re solid trimmers from my limited experience with them. I’d say skip the 94 since they’ve had some serious carb and coil issues, and the 2620 is a great trimmer for your use, but it’s not a solid shaft. Since the Maruyama checks most of your boxes, I’d say go for them. Regardless of which one you pick, keep the 90R for brush work. Those 4mix trimmers are the king for blade work since they’ve got some killer torque

I recently bought a 111 rx and it's pretty badass. Totally worth the $. I have a 91 also. The 111 replaced a 225 that just couldn't handle it any more kinda like what you said. It is a residential trimmer but it's light that's what I liked, the 91 gets heavy. The 111 is pretty light also, a little over 11lbs. I was thinking MARUYAMA 235 at first but that dealer didn't have any and I didn't want a shindaiwa 2620 ( whatever they call it). My stihl dealer is the closest and she said this was a better unit than the 94 and still pretty light. She also said the 94 has mixed reviews with landscapers and this is well recieved by everyone. $500 trimmer better be well recieved by all. I am very very happy with my purchase. I tried to go a cheaper route first and bought a husqvarna 330 from Lowes. I went straight from store to job and really opened her up and she just couldn't take it. I immediately returned it and bought the 111 the following day. I went in looking at the 94 bought saw the 111rx was better and still light and by then I was looking for quality not affordability so I bought it. It is my main now and the 91 is my secondary. The 225 is drained, run totally dry and hanging in my shed.

I'm currently going on my 3rd year w/ a Maruyama B30L non-Turbo...the predecessor to the B300L. It's been a solid/reliable performer @30cc & 11.5 lbs = no regrets.

I have both the Maruyama b30L and Stihl fs94r trimmers. The Maruyama is around5-7 yrs old and going on 2 full seasons with the stihl.

The Maruyama has been very reliable with no issues and , so far, no issues with
the Stihl. The Maruyama is slightly heavier and slightly more powerful, though neither of those facts make a difference in which trimmer I pick up to use. I like both trimmers and use both about the same!

I mainly bought the Stihl from one of the local dealers because the owner of the local Maruyama dealership passed away and I didn’t know if they would remain open after that.

i have quite a few Maruyama trimmers and blowers and they have been very reliable so dealer and parts availability have not been a concern for me! My oldest piece, a bc3020 trimmer which is at least 15 years ol, still starts and easily and runs well with no parts ever needing replaced…except for the starter rope once!

No issues with the Stihl so far! Not crazy about the gas spraying out when you loosen gas cap and the sometimes inconsistent starting…(from 1-5 pulls) though it has never failed to start!

I’ve been looking online for brush blades for the Maruyama, but can’t seem to figure out which ones will fit it. Have you used any specific brand? Or do you know the adapter kit that they take to make them work? I know how the Stihls go on and simple instal on and off but no experience with the Maruyama.

I'd go with the 111rx. I had a 94 for a few days and gave it away. It was hard to start and didn't have the power of the 4mix. The other option I've never ran but you mentioned the 45 minute drive and that's enough for me to say no.

of all the brands i have tried over the past 30 years -maruyama has been the most trouble free. too bad they dont aggressively expand their dealer network. i asked a friend who managed a large shop and he told me their profit margins on maruyama was to low
