1 year old Stihl fs85 that was running perfect, now will not idle after about 30 minutes of hard use trimming 3 large bushes. I put the string trimmer attachment back on, and now the trimmer will not idle. I can start it, and keep it running by constantly keep some throttle pressure, but as soon as you let off, it dies without hesitation. Any ideas, or help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

If it runs when you put slight pressure on the trigger maybe the cable needs adjusted. Follow the throttle cable back to the carb and there should be an adjustment to tighten the cable.

When you release your finger from the trigger does it idle down real low until it stops? If so, this is the most likely the problem.

I have had an FS85 for several years, and the only time I have had a problem with it not idleing was if gas to oil ratio wasn't right.
If you have other gas/oil mix equipment maybe the ratio isn't the same.

You might want to check these items as well if its not the throttle cable.

Stalling is usually the low end jet. You could try a bottle of "injector cleaner" mixed with the correct oil ratio in the machine.

i do rinse my machine, NOT PRESSURE WASH. you take the chance of forcing water in your bearings and the grease out. RINSE.

Also i scrape under the decks once a week. And use a paint brush to apply thin layer of grease under the deck. Extends the life and build up removes easily.
