I can start my Stihl trimmer but it won't stay running unless I put the choke to halfway then I can open the throttle up no issues put it back on run and it dies

Carb needs adjusting.
Or
Try this: Let warm up, run at wot, while at work, slam choke shut till almost died, then repeat. Sometimes it works to clear out carb, or not.

Like BigFish said your carb needs adjusting.
More specifically, it's running lean and putting the choke on makes it run more rich. All you need to do to fix it is turn the High speed screw counter clockwise a half turn out at a time until it smooths out and runs right.
