String of bad luck

We've all been there. I need to rant a little.

On monday, i sent a rock through the passenger window of the work truck. First time ever so I was due. Drug it home with window still somehow holding, parked it. Hopped in the 3/4 ton on Tuesday, sticky caliper all day, ran hot. Got home replaced the caliper. As i'm doing that, I hear a hissing sound, walked over to the work truck, valve stems dumping air. New valve stem. Started the 3/4 this morning to load out. Ac belt popped. No biggie, will run without Ac.

That's 1 broken window, 1 valve stem, 1 brake caliper with pads, and 1 ac belt in 3 days. A solid run of luck for me, don't brush shoulders or it might go to you next! I have a new truck on order, any day now would be nice!

Is it really "bad luck" if a truck breaks down while simultaneously promoting the use of old beater trucks?

Different truck altogether. But I do love me some old plow trucks. Not a breakdown just some maintenance. Running old trucks sometimes this happens. 3 out of the 4 calipers are now new. Did new fuel lines and brake lines before last season. I typically grease the slide pins after season but didnt get to it on this one yet and thats why the last remaining caliper decided to stick on me. At 20 years old Im ok replacing calipers.

That old blue truck got me started and is responsible in part to why I have a new truck on order. Ill still run the old chevys.

Just seems like eveything happend all at once. I could roll the work truck with no windows but why do that when I have a backup. On top of that I would rather find these problems in the off season than in the middle of a snow storm.

To answer you question maybe the broken window wasnt bad luck, but you add up everything else and theres no argument. Ac belt didnt look bad so wondering if theres a pulley issue there as it just snapped completely. Valve stem was only a year old. Sticky caliper I will take credit for bad maintenance.

Things seem to come in bunches that's for sure. When it rains, it pours became a saying for a reason :)

But it also goes both ways, life evens out. I'm in that streak right now. Tuesday I took the day off and went fishing all day till I had to pick kids up from school. Best day of the year weather wise, caught a **** ton of fish, then went to a Turkey banquet that night that I always sponsor, though I don't hunt and after 5-6 years of just donating money I came home with 2 guns and a case :) I'm still nowhere near coming out ahead but that's not the point of these things. Technically losing 95% of your money should never feel this good, but damn does it feel good to win LOL

Last season I had 3 of my 3 running mowers go down on me in the course of 3 days - the first 2 on the same day!
That was fun.

I just dropped my favorite cup that holds ice for a day and busted the lid. Yelled “f’ing S man” and 3 neighbors turned around. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No, was hoping to catch walleye or 2, but right now the white bass are so thick in the river you can't really catch anything else. But it's steady and they're fun to catch anyway. In a week or so, walleye and crappie will be easier to catch because a white bass won't already be on your hook LOL

what else are you supposed to yell?

It happens. Normally to me but sometimes to others.

Once the season is in full swing it doesn't seem like we can get through one day without something breaking or going wrong...
Valve stems can do odd things. Opened the truck at the 2nd property of the day to find the valve core had ejected from the rubber bit. Couldn't get a new one in from the outside. Had to drive home and dismount the tire to get the new stem in. Fortunately I wasn't far from home.

have not had one bad thing happen to me in 6.5 years now, probably due for something eventually

Welcome to running a business. Breakdowns and delays don’t even stress me out any more (usually). If they did I’d loose my hair. I do feel ya tho. I just left the country for 12 days and sure as sh one of our mowers went down the same day & then my worker got behind schedule and things just spiraled a bit.
