Stripe kit and southern grasses

I really appreciate all these beautiful pictures of striped lawns from the folks here on Lawnsite as well as local golf courses and am wondering if southern varieties of lawn grasses will take a stripe. Would it be a waste of money?

Knowing that my customers may or may not know the difference is ok with me. I think LCO's are the ones who are mostly concerned about stripes anyhow, myself especially because I really like the way golf course fairways look (Bermuda in my region, mowed with fairway / reel-type mowers at a low height).

The question: Will southern grasses like St. Augustine and Bermuda stripe if you use a stripe kit? Of course, grass height and moisture will play a role (I cut most of my St. Augutine lawns around 3" and regular mixed lawns about 2.5 to 2.75"). . .

So do any of you LCO's who mow these grass types use a stripe kit and how well does it work / and is there a noticeable difference?
