Striping Kit Chains, what size? 1/4 or 5/16?

I am in the process of making a striping kit using angle iron and chains and was curious what size of chain others use. I also am interested in the pros and cons of your chain set ups.

I conducted a search and found that most of you use 1/4" or 5/16" chains. It appears that the older posts from 2000 and 2001 the majority of respondents used 5/16" on their striping kits. Some of the newer posts suggest that 5/16" is sometimes too aggressive and 1/4" is sufficient.

I had installed 2 rows of 1/4" chains, but they did not seem heavy enough and I removed them before I cut up the 30 feet of chain that otherwise may not work.

I guess I am requesting a poll and am also interested in your experiences.

I use 5/16. They might be overkill, but they don't hurt anything. If you drive on payment alot, then the bigger chain will last longer. I used 2ft sections then folded them in half so I only need half as many bolts. I have 2-3 links dragging on ground. Next to the tire I cut one link off to shorten it a little.
