stripping

What makes the best stripes. The species of turf-grass of the thickness. I had a customer ask me this (stripes are very important to him as well as me). I have been reading about this and really haven't come up with anything. So I guess that's the question is it the species or how well you aerate and seed, or a combo of both. I await the years of experience you all have to offer on this problem.

turf type, water content, height, growing season, mowing speed , kits or rollers that pronounce the direction. Basically it is caused by the light reflecting off the top or being absorbed.

In my experience fescue is a great grass to stripe. The broad leaf leaves a nice line. As for stripers, they are all the same to me. Its the operator. Ive seen roolers, chains and belts all do awesome. I use chains. The weight works. They are much cheaper then roolers and will last MUCH longer. No bearings or breaking. If you loose a link jsut replace it. No big deal and keep going.

Overall, cool season grasses like fescue and bluegrass stripe the best IMO.

What if you are not using a rider? Can you just drag the chains by hand on smaller lawns? No one here stripes, it would be a nice option for my clients.

If your using a walkbehind mower you can still attach a stripe kit to it.

You can fashon any type of striper for almost every mower. They even make em for push mowers. There is many sites that sell aftermarket stripers. What mower do you use?
