I've always used Super Sand and have even used it when doing an overlay over an existing concrete patio. I called the company a long time ago and was told it was OK to use as long as there was good pitch. The Super Sand sets up hard and does get a little mushy when it gets wet for a prolong time. The Gator Maxx seems to setup faster but stays hard. I guess there is more polymers in the Gator Maxx. However, in a thaw / freeze cycle wouldn't the Super Sand be better since it would allow for more movement? Just curious if anyone has used both products and had anything to report.

I wondered about this too. The Gator Maxx is sold for going over concrete patios. I'm not sure which one would be better for freeze, thaw cycles.
