i'm just curious, does anyone here use an SUV as one of their work trucks? If so, what kind and how do you like it? I am thinking of getting an SUV as my daily driver, but was also thinking that I could use it for work too, just to tow from house to house for regular mowing. I was looking at a Dodge Durango. I would still have my pickup for when i need to carry materials or do leaves

I think that using a SUV will make you look like a part timer...less experienced, less dependable, and you'll make your personal vehicle smell like grass & gas. JMHO.

I personally wouldn't use an SUV. I wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly nice personal vehicle as a work truck.

We use an Isuzu Trooper w/ a V6 3.2 liter. Pull a 16" trailer w/ 3 mowers (2 big, one small) on it. We like it, just a bit under powered on the hills.

Wow. A 16 inch trailer must be hard to get any equipment on.

I can't see a professional LCO using an SUV and not getting laughed at by the pros.

Oh sorry, 16' that is! And here where we live, there aren't many pros.:) We don't seem to have any problem using an SUV here. You should have seen the Chevy Station Wagon we used before we got the SUV!

When I first started I used the wife's PSD Excursion. It worked well but I like the 2500HD a LOT better (dedicated work truck).

A crew cab pickup would be nearly as useful as a family vehicle while also not giving the impression that you are a family man who just lost his job and is scrambling to make a quick buck. Sorry, thats' the way it appears. A roll top or hard shell cover on the bed would give you the dry and secure cargo capacity the suv has.

I think it's kinda nice to use my Durango for the biz. Family truck, boat hauler, dog hauler, camper, etc. on the weekends, and the 'Bosses' truck during the week. Occasionally I'll haul trailers around or deliver equipment to the crew, but normally this is my 'sales' and 'pr' truck.
