We recently built a flatbed dovetail landscaper body for one of our trucks. Anyone have any suggestions other than gorilla gate for a spring assist mechanism? Our gate weighs about 400lbs. (we build it heavy enough to drive a skid steer on it.)

I've seen a spring assist systems similar to a garage door spring. Works at hinge point, works great and no external parts or wires. Most use split gates.

I would mount a 12 volt winch and run the cable to the gate. 400 lbs is enough to hurt someone if anything ever went wrong.
