i just loaded a public album with 9 pictures of some tests i did of 2 solenoids on 14ga wires.

the pics didn't load in the order i originaly put them in but, all are captioned with details.

you guys know by now that i'm not selling TDR's, so if you're interested in my poor mans research, take a look.

mike, 1 of the solenoids is "fried" (i plugged it into an outlet) and the other is a working solenoid i had left over from a bonnet swap repair. i thought you might be interested with this.

i didn't post them here because of space.

Jeez, the Rocky Mountain geek brought it up, good going, Dana. Glad to see you using a Fluke meter, Jim.
yes, i'm glad he did. i must be overlooking something somewhere.

i wanted to load the pics elsewhere and use the forum for discussion. i was pretty happy with the results of the tests, they were just about what i expected for a reading on a short run on a coiled wire.

as for the fluke mike, you wouldn't install inferior products and i won't use junk, were supposed to be professionals.........

just briefly read through the manual. if i'm correct, in order to locate a short, you need to disconnect the end of the wire from both the controller and the solenoid.

and will it register a smaller nick?
and how well does it work with multi-strand, 18/13- 18/19?

i didn't get a manual with mine, http://www.triplett.com/manuals.php thanks for the idea. the triplett is made by BCI the first TDR i bought

i don't disconnect from anything but the controller. my friend, i feel that the only way to get the correct answer is to try it yourself.........i've been using TDR's for quite a while and i'm still learning things, sometimes it works great sometimes it doesn't work as well, but i think that it is me missing something.

so far if it's a wire, it's worked.........18/13- 18/19 the only difference is the impediance.

the thing that i find interesting is that the TDR reads short with a footage when the solenoid is good and length with a footage when you have an open or fault.

you have to use the machine to really appreciate it's use.
