We have Ky 31 here in Missouri, it is considered a field fescue. It has a larger leaf blade than turf fescue. Larger clumps are caused from thinner turf. All fescue is a bunch(clump) grass, the more clumps the thicker and more even the lawn. The nice thing about Ky 31 is it is maintenance free, compared to turf fescues. Having a field fescue background it has a stronger root system, very hardy. If you have a large lawn it may be your best choice, but being in NY you will have milder climate than our hot, humid summers. You may want to use a turf type tall fescue. Remember reseed every fall with a different variety of TTTF to get the newest and best varieties that are disease and drought resistant.

Go with Improved Tall Fescues. K-31 too course for a decent lawn.

K31 was bred as graze for animals and somehow made it into lawns.
